Plastic free razor - The Kairn Pencil Razor
Plastic free razor from Kairn
One of the first sensations our evolving skin learns is that of touch.
As we learn, so does our skin. Touch plays a crucial role in nearly all of our sensory experiences. One tactile object that we handle more than any other in our lifetime is the humble pencil. Any human hand would recognise and be comfortable holding one.
This is why at Kairn when developing our plastic free safety razor we used the pencil as our blueprint. The Kairn Pencil razor handle reminds us of the pencil grip that every human hand is at home with.
Safety razors are much heavier than normal razors, often being fashioned from solid metal. They are stronger as they need to hold the razor blade itself in place, but the unintended consequence of this is a dramatically different shaving experience. For those holding the razor for the first time, its weight may seem a little foreign. However, once you start to shave you will discover the advantages that a sharp blade placed gently on the skin, can have over cheaper multi-blade plastic alternatives.
Made for your skin
With the solid weight of a DE safety razor in hand, you will find that simply gliding the blade over well prepared skin is all you need to lift off even longer hairs or thicker stubble. By having weight in the razor head, maneuverability is a simple task as your hand is free to shift and adapt the cutting edge to the contours of your face and body.
Our plastic free razor and blades lasts much longer than plastic alternatives, and when combined with the colour collection of shaving oils, and our leather strop, nourishes, protects and nurtures your skin when shaving. The leather Blaidmat shown in some pictures is sold separately.
The Kairn Three Stage shaving system works for all hair types, on all parts of your body. It takes a little time, but we think that the time spent is well worth it, as it's to nourish, protect and renew your skin.
Rinse your skin in warm water to soften hair. Pour a capful of Kairn skin scrub into your palm and gently massage into the area to be shaved. Our skin scrub is designed to gently exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells prior to shaving, whilst also preparing your skin for step 2. Rinse off with warm water.
Pour a capful of Kairn shave oil into palm and gently massage into the area to be shaved. Our shave oil is designed to hydrate and moisturise the skin whilst leaving a fine layer on the surface to help your blade glide effortlessly as you shave. After shaving, rinse the area with clean, cool water and towel dry.
Apply a capful of Kairn after shaving balm to your skin and gently massage until absorbed. The natural ingredients in our balm are designed to promote natural regeneration and maintain healthy skin post shaving. You might find it takes a moment to absorb, but it's worth waiting to fully nourish your skin.
Our shave and skin oils are inspired by nature, harvesting the power of plants to turn their environment into natural wonders. At Kairn we harness the active botanical oils and minerals found in these plants and allow you to share in their powerful skin renewing properties. Whether as shave oils or as moisture enhancing face & body oils, they are easily absorbed and packed with essential skin boosting nutrients.

Peppermint oil has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. We love peppermint oil as it helps reduce itching and has stunning aroma.
Lavendula Angustifolia [Lavender] o o o
Thriving in temperate climes, since Roman times lavender has been used to bathe in due to its antimicrobial and antioxidant characteristics. When steamed, the delicate flowers yield pale yellow oil droplets which our growers capture and store for our balms. It's sweet smelling rich oil is simply sublime, and is the signature of our skin balm and skin oils.
